ألياتس الثاني

ألياتـِّس الثاني Alyattes II, ملك ليديا (619-560 ق.م.), المؤسس الحقيقي للإمبراطورية الليدية, وكان ابناً للملك سادياتـِّس, من بيت مرمناداي.

لأعوام عدة واصل ألياتس الثاني الحرب ضد ميلتوس والتي بدأها والده, but was obliged to turn his attention to the Medes and Babylonians. وفي 28 مايو, 585 ق.م., أثناء معركة هاليس حارب ضد Cyaxares, ملك مديا, حدث كسوف شمسي (انظر أيضاً طاليس); فتوقفت العداوات, وحل السلام, و Halys أصبح الحد بين المملكتين.

ألياتس طرد Cimmerii (انظر سكوذيون) من آسيا, وأخضع Carians, واستولى على عدة مدن أيونية (سميرنا, كولوفون). (سميرنا نـُهـِبت ودُمِرت ح.600 ق.م., واضطر سكانها للنزوح إلى الريف.)

عاير وزن العملات (1 ستاتر = 168 حبة قمح). The coins were produced using an anvil die technique and stamped with the Lion's head, the symbol of the Mermnadae.

وقد خلفه ابنه كروسس. ابنته Aryenis of Lydia كانت الملكة الرفيقة لأستياگس, ملك مديا.

مقبرته مازالت قائمة على الهضبة بين بحيرة جيگايا ونهر هرموسإلى الشمال من سارديس -- a large mound of earth with a substructure of huge stones. It was excavated by Spiegelthal in 1854, who found that it covered a large vault of finely-cut marble blocks approached by a flat-roofed passage of the same stone from the south. The sarcophagus and its contents had been removed by early plunderers of the tomb, all that was left being some broken alabaster vases, pottery and charcoal. On the summit of the mound were large phalli of stone.
