أمستردام الجديدة

أمستردام الجديدة (هولندية: Nieuw-Amsterdamcode: nl is deprecated ، New Amsterdam)، هي مستوطنة هولندية من القرن السابع عشر تأسست على الحافة الجنوبية لجزيرة منهاتن، والتي كانت تمثل مقعداً للحكومة الاستعمارية في أرض هولندا الجديدة. عام 1614 أصبح المركز التجاري مستوطنة خارج فورت أمستردام على جزيرة منهاتن في هولندا الجديدة. بفضل موقعها الاستراتيجي، المحصن على الطرف الجنوبي لجزيرة منهاتن، كان الهدف منها الدفاع عن عمليات تجارة الفراء التي تقوم بها [[شركة الهند الشرقية الهولنديةي] في نهر الشمال (نهر هدسون). أصبحت امتدادات اقليمياً للجمهورية الهولندية في عام 1724 وخُصصت كعاصمة للاقليم عام 1625.

أعيد تسمية أمستردام الجديدة بنيويورك في 8 سبتمبر 1664، تكريماً لدوق يورك (لاحقاً جيمس الثاني من إنگلترة). في 1667 تخلى الهولنديون عن البلدة وبقية المستعمرة، مقابل السيطرة على جزر التوابل.

The Rigging House on 120 William Street, the last remaining Dutch building of New Amsterdam. Built in the 17th century, it became a Methodist church in the 1760s and became a secular building again before its destruction in the mid-19th century.
