فرديناند ڤربيست

فرديناند ڤربيست Ferdinand Verbiest ( عاش 9 أكتوبر، 1623 – 28 يناير، 1688) هو مبشر يسوعي فلمنكي في الصين أثناء أسرة تشينگ.

وُلِد في پيتم بالقرب من تيلت في كونتية فلاندرز (التي هي اليوم جزء من بلجيكا). ويُعرف بإسم Nan Huairen (南懷仁) in Chinese. He was an accomplished mathematician and astronomer and proved to the court of the كانگ‌شي الامبراطور that European astronomy was more accurate than Chinese astronomy. He then corrected the Chinese calendar and was later asked to rebuild and re-equip the مرصد بكين قديم, being given the role of Head of the Mathematical Board and Director of the Observatory.

He became close friends with the كانگ‌شي الامبراطور, who frequently requested his teaching، في الهندسة والفلسصفة و الموسيقى.

عمل دبلوماسياً ورسام خرائط، ومترجم، لأنه يتحدث اللاتينية، الألمانية، الهولندية، الإسپانية، والعبرية واللاتينية. وكتب أكثر من 30 كتاب.

وأثناء ع1670، Verbiest designed what some claim to be the first ever self-propelled vehicle – many claim this as the world's first automobile, in spite of its small size and the lack of evidence that it was actually built.
