طراد قتالي
الطراد القتالي battlecruiser، هو أحد أنواع السفن الرئيسية في النصف الأول من القرن 20. كانت تشبه في الحجم، التكلفة والتسليح البارجات، لكنها كانت تحمل كم أقل من التسليح من أجل الحصول سرعات أعلى. تم تصميم أولى الطرادات القتالية في [[المملكة المتحدةي] في العقد الأول من القرن، مع تطوير الطرادات المدرعة، وفي الوقت نفسه خلفت الدريدنوتات السفن القتالية السابقة لها. كان الهدف من التصميم هو التفوق على أي سفينة ذات تسليح مشابه، ومطاردة أي سفينة ذات تسليح أقل؛ وكان يهدف إلى مطاردة الطرادات الأقل سرعة، وتدميرها مع إطلاق نار كثيف مع تجنب القتال مع البوارج الأكثر قوة والأقل سرعة. إلا أن تم بناء المزيد من الطرادات القتالية، والتي تم استخدامها بشكل متزايد جنباً إلى جنب مع البوارج المحمية بشكل أفضل.

خدمت الطرادات القتالية في القوات البحرية البريطانية، الألمانية، العثمانية، الأسترالية واليابانية أثناء الحرب العالمية الأولى، ومن أشهرها تلك التي استخدمت في معركة جزر فوكلاند وفي العديد من الغارات والاشتباكات في بحر الشمال التي بلغت ذروتها في معركة أسطول ضارية، معركة يوتلاند. عانت الطرادات القتالية البريطانية على وجه الخصوص من خسائر ثقيلة في يوتلاند، حيث جعلتها أسلحتها الخفيفة عرضة للقذائف الثقيلة. مع انتهاء الحرب، تم تطوير تصميم السفينة الرئيسي لتصبح السفن القتالية أكثر سرعة والطرادات القتالية أكثر تسليحاً، لتقل الفجوة بين الطرادات القتالية والسفن القتالية السريعة. حدت معاهدة واشنطن البحرية من انشاء السفن الرئيسية المحدودة من عام 1922 وما بعدها، وبموجب المعاهدة ألغيت السفن القتالية والطرادات القتالية المعالجة، وتم تكهين الجيل الجديد من الطرادات القتالية.
