روبرت سترانج ماكنامارا (و. 9 يونيو، 1916 - 6 يوليو ، 2009)، هو business executive أمريكي ، وثامن وزير دفاع للولايات المتحدة. عمل ماكنامارا وزير دفاع في عهد الرؤساء جون كينيدي وليندون جونسون خلال [حرب فيتنام] من 1961-1968. ويعتبر مهندس مفهوم التدمير المتبادل المؤكد ، إحدى السمات الرئيسية لسباق التسلح النووي خلال الحرب الباردة.

وكان أيضا رئيسا لدائرة الحروب الأميركية خلال حشد القوات الاميركية في فيتنام، التي سرعان ما تحولت واحدة من أهم الحروب في تاريخ الولايات المتحدة، بعدما أدت الى مقتل 58 األف أميركياً، بحسب أرقام الأميركية. وقبل توليه منصبه كوزير للدفاع عام 1961، ترأس ماكنامارا شركة فورد موتورز، وبعد مغادرته الوزارة عام 1968، ترأس البنك الدولي لمدة 13 سنة.وبعد تقاعده من البنك عام 1981، عمل خبيراً استشارياً لعشرات من المنظمات العامة والخاصة وباحثاً في مجال الأسلحة النووية. إلا ان ماكنامارا واجه انتقادات قاسية جداً لدوره في حرب فييتنام، وقد خيمت هذه الانتقادات على سمعته طوال حياته.
