He is the son of Antonin Lefèvre-Pontalis and the brother of Eugène Lefèvre-Pontalis . He married Henriette Réal, daughter of the prefect Gustave Réal and granddaughter of Félix Martin Réal .

With a degree in literature and law, he became a boarding student at the École des chartes in 1879. Attached to the archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , he was appointed embassy secretary.

He regularly contributes to various publications, including the Journal des Débats , the Revue Semaineweekly , the Revue de Paris and the Revue des deux Mondes .

He was president of the Association of winners of the general competition (1925-1928) 1 , of the Society for the History of France , of the Society for the History of Paris and Île-de-France and of the Historical and Archaeological Society of Pontoise, Val-d'Oise and Vexin .
